The traditional grand concert of the XXVIII Song Celebration has begun
One of the most anticipated moments of the summer is here – 58,000 spectators and 32,022 singers, along with their conductors and assistants, are gathering at the Song Festival Grounds to enjoy the grand concert of the Song Celebration.
The concert program opens with wind orchestras. They are followed by boys’ and men’s choirs, children’s choirs, women’s choirs, symphony orchestras, children’s choirs, and mixed choirs. In total, the program includes 40 diverse pieces, featuring both beloved classics and a wealth of new compositions. Almost every group’s repertoire also includes works in regional dialects.
The approximately seven-hour-long grand concert concludes with traditional pieces performed by the combined choirs: Miina Härma’s “Tuljak”, Peep Sarapik’s “Ta lendab mesipuu poole” (“He Flies Toward the Beehive”), and Gustav Ernesaks’s “Mu isamaa on minu arm” (“My Fatherland is My Love”). The final combined choir will also perform “Allikas” (“The Source”), a piece composed especially for this celebration by Ardo Ran Varres, with lyrics by Hasso Krull.
The grand concert is expected to end around 9:00 PM. We kindly ask everyone to be patient and prepared for possible delays when arriving and departing.
